Alamá Uluave has served in many capacities for the West Side. He moved from Tonga at age 9 to Hawaii and then Salt Lake City, where he has contributed ever since. He is currently on the Board of Directors for NeighborWorks Salt Lake. He was the first Pacific Islander to hold a seat on the Salt Lake City school board, which he held for 2 terms. Before that, he was a PTA member and part of his community’s neighborhood watch. He taught classes, in both Tongan and English, to parents on how to intervene before their kids felt the need to join gangs for comradeship and support. As a contributor to the community he has been nominated for the NeighborWorks America Dorthy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership.
